ARTIST BIO
For forty-five years, Billy Idol has been one of the faces and voices of rock’n’roll, with an artistic resume to match the brilliant light of the image. First as the camera-ready front man for Generation X, between 1977 and 1981 Billy emerged with three albums that made positivity, emotional depth, and high pop synonymous with punk rock. In 1982, Billy embarked on a remarkable transatlantic/transgenre solo career that integrated clubland throb, wide-screen depth and drama, rockabilly desperation, the bold and simple lines of punk, and rock’n’roll decadence.
Decades after releasing his first 45, Billy Idol still makes gliding, thumping, cinematic songs about sin, redemption and the love of rock’n’roll…and that’s what you will find on The Roadside, Billy Idol’s first release of original material in seven years. Produced by Butch Walker (Green Day, Weezer, amongst many others), The Roadside takes Billy Idol into new but familiar waters full of color, power, atmosphere, attitude, and mystery.
On The Roadside Billy Idol is joined by his friend and collaborator since 1981, guitarist and co-songwriter Steve Stevens. For 40 years, yes 40 years, Steve has been Billy Idol’s sonic assassin and master blender of tones and textures, the thinking man’s shredder and the shredding man’s Picasso.

William Michael Albert Broad (born 30 November 1955), known professionally as Billy Idol, is an English musician, pop singer, songwriter, and actor. He first achieved fame in the 1970s as a member of the punk rock band Generation X. Subsequently, he embarked on a solo career which led to international recognition and made Idol one of the lead artists during the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" in the United States. The name "Billy Idol" was inspired by a school teacher's description of him as "idle". In an interview on 21 November 1983, Idol said the name "was a bit of a goof, but also part of the old English school of rock. Billy Fury and all that.
The Swansea four piece 'The Effect' have been combining a love of Experimental Post Rock and Alternative Pop since the summer of 2009, creating a unique mix of reverberated guitars and melodic choruses that have seen them share the same stage with established acts such as Neck Deep, Canterbury, Straight Lines, Francesqa, Proxies, People in Planes, Attack! Attack!, The Afterparty and many more in and around the South Wales area and further afield. Their successful First EP 'Everything Has Gone' including 'Plastic Hearts' and the anthemic 'Everything Has Gone (Wake Up)’ was released in 2011. With the hooks that compell you to sing along 'The Effect' found themselves gaining airplay on Bethan Elfyns and Jen Long's BBC Introducing Show. 2012 was an amazing year for the quartet, with the release of their second EP' Lioness' in June featuring the singles 'Lights' and 'True Colours', saw the band tour the UK and a sold out album release show in Swansea. With the release of their single and video 'Better Off Forgotten’ in early October 'The Effect' toured the UK once again. 2013 had been no exception so far, ‘The Effect’ toured the UK once again and came back with their thumping single 'Alive Again' which was released February 25th. They also landed themselves as 'Kerrang's' Local Heroes and have previously appeared in 'Front Magazine'. 2013 saw ‘The Effect’ rerelease their second EP ‘Lioness’ with added material. Armed with the Deluxe Edition of ‘Lioness’ the band hit the road again in June. Fresh out of the studio ‘The Effect’ had big plans in place for the rest of 2013 and early 2014. With a new EP on the horizon backed by producer Romesh Dodangoda ‘The Effect’ released the single ‘Souvenir’ early November following their UK tour mid October. November again saw a busy month for the band with another UK tour and new EP release set for January. Armed with their new EP 'Running With The Wolves' released January 20th 2014 'The Effect' toured the UK once again in January and March. The Swansea four piece were featured in and dubbed as 'Inside Shock Magazines' band of the month and were given a review of their new EP defining one track as "a piece of musical art". On May 30th 2014, 'The Effect' released their EP title track 'Running With The Wolves' gaining a lot of attention for its punchy and unique video. 2014 was a great year for 'The Effect' and 2015 is promising more tours in the UK and Europe, leading onto a debut album later in the year.
