A dozen years into Rebelution's stirring career, the release of the California reggae band's fifth album 'Falling Into Place' finds them more energized than ever. Touring relentlessly since 2014's 'Count Me In' debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae chart, the band's members have expanded their songwriting horizons and recorded 11 tight new tracks that fuse an ever-youthful attitude of celebration with the mature perspective of men of the world. The lyrics of "Lay My Claim" get right to the point: "Let it all unfold straight from the soul." It's about working hard and then reaping the benefits, says singer/guitarist/lyricist Eric Rachmany -- about "being present with the music instead of just thinking about the outcome and the limelight. We're not making music to hit a certain demographic. We're just making music that we enjoy!" For 'Falling into Place,' Rebelution's four core members -- Rachmany, keyboardist Rory Carey, drummer Wesley Finley, and bassist Marley D. Williams -- got some refreshing new perspectives by writing with different producers and writers and recording at multiple studios. For Rachmany, the creativity began with an inspirational trip to Jamaica, the birthplace of reggae, where he did some of the writing. Dwayne "Supa Dups" Chin-Quee (Bruno Mars, Eminem) produced many of the tracks. Others feature the studio wizardry of Yeti Beats (Kool Keith, Los Rakas, and Rebelution's two previous albums), while Donovan "DonCorleon" Bennett (Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Morgan Heritage) produced two. Locking it all together are rock-solid musicianship, a "sun splashy sound" (Relix), an intense work ethic, and constant devotion to their art. "We named the album 'Falling Into Place' because all of our varied inspirations and experiences came together into one cohesive collection of music that we really love," says Rachmany. As Billboard writes, "Their dynamic brand of original music weaves hypnotic threads of alt-rock and pop, retro- funk, blues, dub, even traditional Middle Eastern strains. Rachmany's expressive voice wraps his soul-searching lyrics in beguiling melodies." 'Falling Into Place' mingles stories of love gained and lost with reminiscences of years gone by ("Pretty Lady," "Those Days," "Santa Barbara") and socially pertinent songs like "Know It All," which challenges the hatred in an ever-more-violent world and a fraught political environment. Jamaican deejay and one time tour-mate Protoje adds guest vocals on "Inhale Exhale," an intense earworm celebrating the movement towards further legalization of marijuana. Rebelution came together in Isla Vista in 2004. The college friends evolved into one of the brightest lights of modern reggae. Their debut album 'Courage to Grow' was named iTunes' Editors' Choice for Best Reggae Album of 2007. 'Bright Side of Life,' released on their own 87 Music label in 2009, hit #1 on the iTunes Reggae chart. It was also the third most downloaded album in the U.S. in all genres, and reached #1 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart and #34 on Billboard's top 200. The triple-album 'Peace of Mind,' released in 2012 with acoustic and dub versions, marked an even higher chart debut: #13 on the Billboard Top 200. It hit #1 on both the Reggae and Independent charts, and was the #4 iTunes album overall. Island Sun Weekly called the next album, 2014's 'Count Me In,' "an energetic melding of catchy reggae sounds, sunny vocals and a pulse of alternative flare. It's full of positive vibes, bounding island melodies, and inspiring reggae beats." Sure enough, it made an even bigger splash, entering the Reggae chart at #1 and the Billboard overall chart at #14, thanks to the band's best-ever week of sales. It also premiered in the top 5 on both the Independent Albums and Digital charts. On the road for at least half the year, Rebelution continues to bring its intense, sun-drenched California reggae to widening audiences all over. The songs say it all. "Plant a seed, watch the whole thing grow." Rebelution doesn't just play and sing. They live these words and this music -- as more fans learn with every new release.
Iration is a reggae group from Santa Barbara, California. All members originally hail from Hawaii. They play a mix of reggae, dub, and rock. The group is one of the leading bands in the genre of sunshine reggae. Iration began in Isla Vista, CA, the small college town connected to UC Santa Barbara, playing reggae covers in college towns such as Cal Poly SLO, Chico State and UC Davis.
The Expendables enjoyed a laid-back lifestyle growing up in Santa Cruz, CA; surfing, skating, partying, and playing music were commonplace. Since 1997, The Expendables have staked their claim in the California surf/rock genre by headlining venues from coast to coast. Blending Reggae, Punk Rock, and 80s style dueling guitar solos, The Expendables have made heads turn and floors shake for years. The band consists of four longtime friends: Geoff Weers (Guitar and Vocals), Adam Patterson (Drums and Vocals), Raul Bianchi (Lead Guitar) and Ryan DeMars (Bass). The first seven years of their career was fueled with three full-length, completely independent releases. No Time To Worry (2000), Open Container (2001), and Gettin’ Filthy (2004), would bring in a combined total of over 40,000 units sold with no physical distribution and no record label. While touring and supporting their album, Gettin’ Filthy, The Expendables would share the stage with Slightly Stoopid and catch the attention of founders and front men Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty. In 2007 Slightly Stoopid formed their own independent label, Stoopid Records, and signed The Expendables for the label’s first non-Stoopid release, which was The Expendables self-titled. Released in September 2007, the album would be accepted as an instant classic by fans and received rave reviews from critics. The band continued supporting the album with hundreds of shows over the next two years, gaining fans around the world, and respect from the bands that influenced them. Early 2009 The Expendables toured relentlessly. Within a few short months, they hit the road with NOFX, Less Than Jake, Pennywise, and Pepper. In case that was not enough, The Expendables were honored to join 311 on their Summer Unity amphitheater tour, rocking huge stages, and opening new doors for the band. The boys decided idle time was not an option after the conclusion of their tour with 311, so they went straight in to the studio to begin recording their next album, Prove It. Paul Leary (producer of Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, Supersuckers, as well as guitar player for Butthole Surfers) and El Hefe (guitar player of NoFX) would split producing duties at Big Fish studios in Encinitas, California. Prove It was released May 11th 2010 debuting at #158 on the Billboard Top 200, #30 on Billboard’s Independent charts, and #4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers! The album also pushed to #15 on iTunes Top 200 and #5 on iTunes Alternative Charts, jumping The Expendables to a new level in their career. The band’s new release would include guest performances by C-Money, OG, and Dela of Slightly Stoopid throughout the album. Jumping into the mix as well would be long time friend G. Love on the ballad “Wells”. To support the release of Prove It, The Expendables continued their tenacious touring schedule with their popular yearly Winter Blackout Tour, a headlining Spring Tour, a slot supporting Slightly Stoopid and Steel Pulse on this summers, Cauzin’ Vapors tour and will be in Europe with The Mad Caddies during the fall. The band will close out the year with a national headlining run that will be sure to keep The Expendables strong hype building. Thirteen years later, five albums down and countless miles covered The Expendables show no signs of slowing down.
“It’s all in our minds / Planted over time / Grew into a vine / That became intertwined” – from “All In Our Minds”On Passafire’s sixth studio release, Longshot, the Savannah, GA based rock outfit gives a testimony to following dreams, inspired by people, places, and experiences Passafire has shared since forming as a band. The group’s four members continue chasing their passion despite being told many times that “Making it as a musician is a long-shot,” a piece of advice that inspired this album and its title. Longshot takes its listeners through a full spectrum of emotions, telling stories of heartbreak, new beginnings, overcoming personal struggles, finding truths, discovering new places, and getting older, all weaved into Passafire’s genre-defying mix of reggae, hard rock, hip hop, and anything else that turns the group on musically. Passafire was formed in Savannah, GA, in 2003 by Ted Bowne and Nick Kubley, and have built a strong reputation within the U.S. reggae scene through relentless touring with fellow band members Mike DeGuzman and Will Kubley. Bowne doesn’t mind the grueling schedule and adds, “Touring is the best way to keep the buzz about the band going. What keeps it fun and exciting is the people we meet and places we get to see. We are in a new city every day so there’s always something to go see or do.” They continue to be a larger part of the U.S. reggae scene, even though musically they are often far apart from many of their peers in the genre, with a growing emphasis on alternative and progressive rock elements within their songs.
